Industry will naturally play a leading role in the Technology Development Phase and the subsequent implementation of Laser Energy. Opportunities exist to invest in development of technologies and mass production techniques for the components and systems required for HiPER and future Laser Energy plants. Commercial opportunities will also stem from new industrial applications arising during Technology Development.

This will bring substantial rewards in intellectual property and exploitation rights, an advantage of which will be largely independent of global uptake of Laser Energy.

As the HiPER Project moves towards completion of the Preparatory Phase into Technology Development, engagement and active collaboration will be broadened with key sectors of industry. Collaborations will be formalised with major companies of relevance to the current status and technologies needed for the Project.

European industry stands to benefit very significantly from the economic impact of developing Laser Energy, with several nations now vigorously pursuing this highly attractive technology in response to the global energy challenge.

As well as giving European industry a competitive edge as suppliers of new and sought-after technologies, this will lead to increased employment across a wide spectrum of the European workforce, while spin-off companies will grow in association with the new technologies and development of applications.

A strong position in the Laser Energy marketplace will mean that European industry is well-placed to construct Laser Energy facilities worldwide and thus to reap long term commercial benefit.
